No to fracking in the High Peak

Hadfield North Councillor Ed Kelly, with the support of Buxton Central Councillor Jean Todd and the High Peak Labour Group, is asking High Peak Borough Council to support measures to prevent fracking in the High Peak.

In the motion to be discussed at the High Peak Borough Council meeting on Thursday 25th February, the Labour Group seeks to raise awareness of the dangers of fracking, along with seeking council support to request the Government investigate alternative sources of energy more suitable for the High Peak and Peak District National Park.

Labour Group Leader Cllr Anthony Mckeown said “Local residents are concerned about the dangers of fracking, especially since the government voted to allow fracking in national parks, ignoring the public’s legitimate concerns on the dangers of fracking.”

He continued “our motion seeks to raise awareness of the concerns that racking brings, along with putting in place alternative measures to support local energy production.”
